Some old woman in me has been unlacing my shoes and rubbing sagebrush leaves between my hands for about a decade now. She's been gently showing me the way of things, the way of a life lived in one place. She recommends the books I borrow from the library, the foods I eat from the riverside, the songs I sing when I've got nothing but fears zipping my lips together. She's the one who knows how to love well.
This old woman comes from the time before time, when everything went back to the garden and satisfactions were small and simple. She is who I hear when my eyes ache of computer screen, when I lose touch of feeling, when I forget the enormity of Beauty. She tells of nature, the nature of us to love and be wells for one another. She's the one guiding me to do what I do and care for what I care for.
To the Old Woman, I am of grateful service.
